I think in the song “Give Peace a Chance” John Lennon was definitely promoting peace. When he speaks about Bagism, Shagism, Dragism, Madism, Ragism, he saying that we should forget about all the things that judge us or hurts us to just forget about them and “Try to give peace a chance.” I think in that era everyone was very tense because of the war and it seems like people admired him so naturally he just wanted everyone to chill out, stop the hatred, so maybe they could have peace in their lives. My name is Eliecia Wells i am in Eng. 102 my major is Radiology. What this song is saying to me is basically what everyone is talking about is negative. Why not have a little bit of hope and peace to guide you along in this horrible time of hate and war. John Lennon is trying to get his point across by using a lot of repitition "give peace a chance" because he sees that so many people aren't giving peace a chance with the war and segregation going on. I like how he uses some what of a sarcasm like when he says " Revolution, evolution, masterbation, etc." he throughs in words that no one would want to talk about publicly "masturbation" so why talk about the other things? Just to bring people down. Being i can not hear the song yet, i like the lyrics so the song has to be desent.

The song “Give Peace a Chance” by John Lennon expresses a very powerful meaning in a somewhat silly way. I believe he is trying to tell people to forget about the differences in the world. Forget about the things that divide and come together as a whole. Stop hating and stop judging individuals for their beliefs, etc. There were so many things going on in the 1960s that I do not think people really knew what to do or how to handle the things going on. Through this song, John Lennon was basically suggesting let’s try something that we haven’t tried before ….and that is peace. Nothing else we are doing is working so why not give peace a chance?

Hey group!
My name is Savannah. I have transferred from EKU and I have changed my major quite a few times, still subject to change. Well, to be honest, I don't know what all those -ism's are in the beginning, so I'm just going to skip that part haha. Sounds to me like all Lennon wants is for us to "Give Peace a Chance," obviously. He talks about things that deal with religion because what's more peaceful than God?! He just wants us to be safe and free like we are supposed to be. I don't know all those people that he is talking about at the end of the song besides himself, Yoko Ono, and Bob Dylan. So I guess all them people are hippies who just want a little peace. But who doesn't? Peace is great! That is basically what I got out of the whole song. I think some words in this song were just put in because he wanted to rhyme a little bit.
That's all I have for now.
Peace and Love,

Hello group this is Eliecia Wells. Here to comment on the second blog post. I have read all of the posts and I have to say, that Sarah S. and I have similar thoughts and basically everything she says I agree with and I get what she is trying to say, forget the bad and go with the peace. That is how I see that is what we are basically saying or thing that Lennon is trying to say. Also Lauren Sands blog post stood out to me particularly because what she said made perfect since to me and my feelings of the song also. When Lauren says at the end of her blog post that John Lennon is trying to say “Let’s try something that we haven’t tried before and that is peace.” I think that is a perfect interpretation of what Lennon is trying to say, and how I feel about the song.

Hey group,
It's Savannah B. again. I think Sarah S.'s post was kind of like mine in the sense that she was pretty chill in hers. I liked how she basically said that he was trying to say forget the pain and hate and give peace and love a chance. If only it were that easy to do. I agree with Elecia that her post and Lauren's post sounds about the same. Actually all of the posts sound the same. I mean, I think we are all in agreeance that he just wanted to try out peace for a change even though all of these negative things are happening, to try and just look past the war and hate and realize that we are all in this together. No matter what race, nationality, culture, or their beliefs.
Until next time,

Hi group 
I would totally have to agree with the other people in the group. I think we all had a similar understanding as to what John Lennon was trying to express in this particular song. When I first read the lyrics, I had a general understanding of the message he was trying to convey. I read Sarah S. comment first and it made me think deeper about the actual message. When she states he wanted everyone to just chill out and stop the hatred. That line is what really got me thinking. Until hatred stops, we are not going to have peace  I also really like Eliecia’s comment about how everyone was thinking negative and to try and find hope to get you through this time of hate and war. Basically, I think she said a lot with that. Stop being negative and find the good things in life. Do not let war consume you.

hi everybody! Missed the last blog writing I was very very sick. I think we all have the same Ideas when we analyzed the song. The truth is when the song came out it was very popular because of the war :) but in my opinion this song NOW is very boring. I think it's funny that he made his own words up in the song all of the ism's were his words instead of saying shagging which I think means shagging up with someone not being married? He refered to it as shagism. Am I right?~Sarah S~

Hi everyone!
I would have to disagree with Sarah S. on one thing. I think the song is still an important song even today. We are going through a major war right now and I think people could relate to this song just like they did in the 60’s. I will agree with her that the rhyming adds a little humor to the song! In Eliecia’s first comment, she mentioned the use of repetition in the song. I never really thought the repetition played a major role in trying to get the message across. The more I read the lyrics and now that I have actually listened to the song, the repetition really does help get the point across in such a significant way.

I think this image strongly sends the same message as the lyrics. It shows President Kennedy wearing an Obama button. I think it expresses their similar beliefs as well as similar events going on. Kennedy was around for most of the Vietnam War and stood strongly for change. Probably the reason he was assassinated. Obama is going to become the president in the midst of an ugly war. They both stood for peace which is the message this song is trying to convey.

Hello group! This is Eliecia Wells here to post my third blog post. First i would like to say that i agree with Sarah S. That the song is boring when you listen to the lyrics at least. I believe this song is much more meaningfull just by reading it. I also agree with Lauren S. the song is very important in this time and day and age.
The song i pick out is a song by Matallica called "One" bascially talking about a person who has been through the war, and no one cares. The only thing these two songs have in commen is that they are both anti-war.
